ESTK and macOS 10.15 Catalina
︎ExtendScript Debugger for VSCode is supported on macOS 10.15 Catalina.
Apple just recently released macOS 10.15 Catalina. As has been telegraphed for a few macOS versions, 32-bit applications no longer work on Catalina. ExtendScript Toolkit (a standalone 32-bit application for creating and debugging scripts for flagship Creative Cloud applications) will not launch or function on machines that have macOS Catalina installed.
To address the fact that ESTK is a 32-bit application, we created and released the VSCode ExtendScript Debugger plugin earlier this year. However, we understand that this may not meet everyone’s needs. As such our guidance to the community is as follows:
- If you absolutely depend upon the capabilities of ESTK, you should not update to macOS 10.15 Catalina at this time.
- If you wish to upgrade, you can use the VSCode ExtendScript Debugger plugin. This does not replace all the capabilities of ESTK, so you’ll want to be sure that it will meet your needs before you upgrade to Catalina. You can review the supported and unsupported features here.
Additionally, the ESTK installer may no longer be available for installation from the Creative Cloud Desktop application for some users. You can download this tool for versions of macOS prior to Catalina from our CEP Resources GitHub repo here.
If you have any questions about ESTK, the VSCode ExtendScript Debugger plugin and its future, and how macOS Catalina impacts these tools, please let us know.
